You have a K-jet system, so there is no mechanical pump. The picture shows the solenoid mounted on the mixture control unit, so it probably either lowers control pressure, or moves the piston in the fuel distributor so that the engine gets more fuel when cranking. If you want to test it, jumper 12V to it and see if it clicks. If you are really adventurous, give it a 12V shot while cranking and see if it improves starting.
If helps and you want to install it permanently, I'd suggest you activate it with a timer relay that will activate it for a pre-set amount of time when the starter is cranked, rather than the whole time cranking.
