difference in muffler? 280SE 4.5 vs 280SE

I am looking to buy muffler for my 280SE 4.5, but I see a lot of mufflers available for 280SE with 6 cylinder engine, but no option for 4.5 version.
They look very identical. Could the one for inline 6 engine work for V8 4.5?

I would think if the tubing ID and fitment is the same it would work.

difference in muffler? 280SE 4.5 vs 280SE

I will make an effort to snap a picture of the muffler on my 1973 280se 4.5 and the one on my parts car 1969 280s some time today for comparison.

Edit: sorry I haven't gotten around to this. I may have missed my window.

I bought a generic v8 muffler for mine and it sounded exactly like the ones with a Mercedes emblem. I'd go for the least expensive

Grubeguy - What generic muffler did you use? Do you remember the brand or specs?

So if the ID of pipes between 6 and 8 Cylinder mufflers are the same, they are interchangeable?

The 280s might be a lot rustier, but I don't see a difference in the mufflers.

Based on power calculations, I believe that two 1.75" pipes on r/c107 cars is a limiting factor for a 240hp 5.0, but I think it is enough for a 190hp 4.5.

Thank you very much for pictures! I think the same that there is no difference between mufflers as long as its got two pipes.
I am going to order the one for 6 cylinder engine now!
