1973 450SL needs help!

I bought a project car couple weeks ago
This car barely made it to my house, lots of problems
There is one parts that i dont get, located at back of the driver side
I attached the photos for this part
Can you varify what kind of part is it? and how this part work?
Its connected with one of the fuel line, car still runs without this part

I think it's the valve that goes between the tank and the charcoal filter. It controls the fuel vapors. They go into the crankcase when the engine is running and into the charcoal filter when it's stopped. Yours is missing the filter and the cover that goes over the filter.

Where can i get the filter and the cover? any suggestion for that?
i think i can make the filter cutting the sponge

I've had three North American 450sl cars and completely disassembled one of them. I don't recall seeing that part anywhere. All the charcoal canisters I've had are enclosed and just have two hose connections.

I believe it is for California cars.

The cover is sold separately. PN 107 471 02 67. The filter is 107 471 00 42. Any dealer should be able to get them for you.
