W108 280se engine head swap

I have a 1970 280se 6cyl fuel injected, I bought a second hand head from a 280s and had it reco'd cost me a bit, now that I've spent all this money, I realize that the heads are slightly differnt eg combustion chamber is different and so is the thermo sensor inputs. My question is can I make the 280s head fit my 280se engine??? I'm having heaps of drama with this car ?

I am very sorry to say.... It sound like you have decided to come to this site way too late if this car has been causing you frustration.

The "e" in a MB name represents a fuel injected gasoline engine. When the injection or intake system is different on an engine, usually the heads are different too.

There are tools you can use like the EPC, and people at your local MB dealer or the classic center that are often willing to help, and even more willing people on this website.

I am sorry for your frustration, but someone with a carbeurated car might be interested in your newly refinished head.

try contacting the seller of this head on fleabay, as they appear to be knowledgeable about head interchanges.

Hi guys thanks for your response, both heads are indeed fuel injected. I bought the head off a Bloke who has stripped 200 of these cars he told me I can fit a newer head on an older engine but not an older head on a newer engine. He still managed to sell me a slightly older head..... I will try and post photos later today for better understanding.

280s is a carbeurated engine, not fuel injected, pretty sure both 280s and 280se (with no number afterwards) are both m130 2.8 engines. I don't know what else to say unless someone can prove to me otherwise.

It's really easy to figure out. If it's an injected head, it will have six threaded holes for the injectors on the intake (right) side of the head.

The older heads from the earliest 220SE motor had a 2 element fuel injection pump that fed through the intake manifold by way of a system of dividers.
The intake manifold had very long runners.
This head did not have the ports machined directly into the combustion chamber.
Later 6 element pumps had the port in the head and used a shorter intake manifold

How about the blocks? Last night a friend told me the 280s block won't work in a 280se (or a 280se head won't work on a 280s block). Is that true?

The 280s block has no provision for the oem mechanical FI pump.
The 280se head could work on a 280s block but you will need to plug the injector ports and may require an adapter for the heater hose outlet.
