A Ponton just showed up

I have a minor investment in getting my race mechanic into his own German repair shop and stopped in to shoot the breeze.
In the parking lot there is sitting a black 1959 190D.

It is far from being in mint condition, but it is not a bad looking car. It needs shift linkage work and probably a clutch. I will update that.

Hopefully later today I will be able to snap a couple of photos.

Living way out in cow country we just don't see the vintage German cars much at all.

Need Hoses and Got Hosed

Well I have been remiss in taking pictures.

The shop had a massive theft. Even a race car that runs part time in the Tudor series was stolen.
They also got about $70,000 worth of tools. Our insurance is excellent and we have about 90% of the tools already replaced by Sanp-On. The rest will be coming from other vendors like Baum. Our insurance company has been awesome. The car that was stolen was left without us knowing it was coming in and left in an unlocked trailer with no hitch lock either. That owner is working with his insurance company.
The tenant in the front of the building left the alarm off over a weekend. We have since installed a much better alarm for just the shop.

So We got this time capsule of the Ponton shift linkage fixed and it drives and runs quite well, but is now oozing diesel like a BP offshore drilling rig.

However we are in desperate need of the high pressure fuel line that goes from the pump to the fuel distributor. It is a 4 cylinder not the 2.2 liter 6 cylinder. That hose has banjo fittings at both ends. We can send out and get one made but the hose shop we use is backed up a couple of weeks doing a huge order for racing team that needs over 2000 hoses.
Also the small fuel return line. If we have to we can fix that in house, but the owner wants OE or OEM stuff if possible.
We still will do inner and outer tie rods on both sides and the owner had them for 19 years in old MB packaging.

So, wait a couple weeks, what's the rush?

The owner wants it in a parade on the 24-25th of this months and of course he swears that this is the first
time it leaked or that he was aware of a leak, but it came in on a flatbed. He may just miss the parade.

This is not that hard. Tom Hanson at the Mercedes Classic Center is the go-to for Pontons. You can email him at thomas.hanson@mbusa.com or call him at 949-598-4842.

Also, Mercedes-Benz Pontons (1953-1962) © www.mbzponton.org has a lot of information about the cars.

Looking in the EPC, the only lines with banjo fittings on both ends run from the pump to the fuel filter.

Hope you get it back on the road,

CT

Thank you both for the updates on sources.

I did not call the Classic Center, I used the email contact and it had been almost a week.

I feel sort of dumb now. I did not know EPC went back that far and I am subscribed so I will check it out on EPC later.

The CC doesn't do very well with the generic email, but Tom has always been quite responsive. Also, as you probably know, if you get the PNs from the EPC, any dealer can order the hoses.
