W114 Fuel Delivery Advice Needed
I really would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer. I've spend a year getting my '71 250 running, but now I have a hurdle that is keeping me from driving it. The car has the M130 engine with dual Zenith 35/40 carbs. When I try to take it for a drive I can go about 7 miles before it starts starving for fuel and dies. It will crank fine, but won't fire. The clear plastic fuel filter is brand new and the fuel inside, when it has fuel inside before I start my drive, is crystal clear.
When the car dies the fuel filter will be empty and no matter how much I crank the engine the fuel filter will still be empty. If I disconnect the fuel inlet line I can suck fuel through it. I can't feel any pressure from the pump when I put my finger on the inlet nipple while the car is cranked.
If I use starting fluid about 4 or 5 times I can get the car to start, the fuel filter will fill, and I can drive home. The car will run perfectly on the drive home. I'm thinking I have a fuel pump problem. Any ideas?
