The Journey of Restoration: a W115 200/8 rebirth
Hello everyone, I wanted to share a little of what I have been up to since the beginning of last year. Here is my story on how I found this W115 left to rust and decided to take care of it.
My uncle had this W115 200 he bought some years ago to an old couple, he never really care for maintaining such a great car and eventually it started to fail. He send it to a mechanic to get it checked and when he was told the budget to fix it would be high he just left it for good. He gave it to my other uncle and he kept it in his unconstructed lot, basically to rust. It was there for at least 2 and a half years, after that they wanted to hack it and sell it as metal but I overheard them and told them to give it to me as I was learning mechanics and it would be a good practice.
Turned out it was worst than I thought, a lot of rust was forming on the body panels, even holes of rust. The engine was already diassembled by the mechanic that worked on it for some time, I took a close look and found there was no distributor. I don't know what happened to it, but I think the mechanic stole it and sold it. Anyway, that day I began my journey to restore it, gave it a good wash and started cleaning the parts. I didn't know what was in store for me when taking on such project(I didn't think it was going to be so difficult at the time).
Here are some pics I have from the first days I saw it, lots of rust and even holes on the floor. This is just the first step of my long journey...
