I think you should take the tranny w the engine. If you want to pay an arm and a leg, I've got something that would make more sense in a w114 coupe than a sedan, a m110 k-jet 280slc 4-speed manual transmission car. It's got a little bit if body damage, and a little bit of rust. I was planning on doing the body work and have collected all the parts and welding equipment to do so, but the fact is that I've got four MB toys and two is the realistic max. The 280slc and the 1972 250c should probably go, as they are both projects that aren't going to make my life much more enjoyable.
My dream car is a classic sporty five speed (stick+overdrive) convertible that seats five. If, you want 70's-80's Mercedes tuner wheels, let me know.
