Are to able to elaborate on this? I asked the local w114 Enthusaist about this and he was unaware if the difference in strut placement you mention.

I also don't know if you are talking about something other than the major facelift that started in 74, or if you are talking about some earlier change.

Does this m110 1973 refute the comment regarding the m110 not fitting?

Hi Fonzi,
This is what I was talking about - see the 2 struts coming off the firewall? The early cars had them, whilst they disappeared for the later ones. Not being a 114 owner I am unaware of the year of changeover. This is a 250CE.

Ahhh... Ok. Hard to tell if they are present on this 1973 gen1 m110 engine car:

I thought they were too until I saw the picture in post 12.

To change an engine and to change it for the better are two different things. (an old German proverb)

This thread is the first I've ever heard of the M110 being "hard to repair"...

My 1971 250 (W114) with a M130 engine doesn't have the struts mentioned.

Sorry, I'm wrong. My car does have the struts. They just gave numerous wires tied to them and I never noticed them. Sorry for the bad info.
