I should have added that my comment was locally biased, since Oregon has a 65 mph freeway speed limit with stretches in or near cities limited tp 60 mph plus the freeway near my home is limited at 55 mph all the way to Salem.
The car is slow to accelerate but, in good tune they are not as slow as many seem to think. If you research you will find many references to a 0-60 time of 25-30 seconds. There is a website that gives 0-60 mph times for all makes and models. It lists the 1980 manual 240D at 19.7-21.4.
So they are slow but certainly not at 30 seconds unless out of tune. Given their age, mileage and the fact that there are still a lot of automatics out there, I don't doubt the 30second figure fits quite a few though. Don
