Moon roofs more trouble than they're worth?

Whadya think? Just an unneeded add-on that leaks and breaks down when electric or a real neat feature that compliments any classic Mercedes? Does it necessarily add value to your car?

Power moonroof in my 1972 w114 250c works fine.

Broken moonroof more trouble than worth maybe, but working one seems nice to have.

I've heard they have a tendency to leak when the rubber sealings start to wear. If not cared for that can turn into a rusty mess. On the electric ones the motors tend to crap out. Not surprising on a 30+ year old motor. Gotta admit yeah when their working there great to have. My favorite are the hand operated roofs. Less things to break on ya!

I like moon roofs, especially manually-operated ones, same for cabriolet tops, I avoid electronics and hydraulics wherever possible on older cars. With a manual roof, most any problem can be sorted with relative ease, but the electric sliding types can be real headaches. As with anything on a car, the maintenance is key, so a properly lubricated moonroof will serve you well without problems.
