Report on car.
Got car running by pouring gas into intake and holding air flap open, after a few minutes it ran by itself, still holding flap open, engine would not rev up. So at least the engine runs, though clearly injection system need a lot of work. bad point is there is probably a bad spot on ring gear , so it grinds and misses sometimes when cranking
got front of car to rise up, did not run long enough to get rear up.
Interior of car is OK, seats only have one small tear in back seat, leather is very dry but still flexible, could save it quite well. door panels ok, dash has 4 or so cracks. headliner is ok.
the heating control knob would not turn.
Body has some issues. rust in front of and behind rear wheels, I think also behind front wheel. I tried the jack in all holes, both on the driver side collapsed. So car need new rocker panels and patching on lower fenders. Not at all something I am thrilled with, but something I could definitely do myself.
Rest of body has no apparent bondo areas, checking with a magnet. Car has been repainted, could get by with for a while with some touch up to be a 5 footer.
Said I could only offer $3000, and he was willing to negotiate between that and $4K, I said $3K was pretty much my max. He offered to throw in any trim or other parts off the other parts car I wanted. The parts car had a decent blue cloth interior, the rest of car was very rusty.
I'm not exactly thrilled, but still somewhat interested at this point. I really would not pay more than $3K for the car. He definitely wanted to get rid of the cars, recognizes that he will never fix them, they have sat for years.
Fix the injection, suspension and rejuvenate interior and it would not be embarrassing to drive, even though there is obvious body work needed.
Guess I will cogitate for a while.
