That is pretty close on restoration costs. Where are you located? (fill out your profile?) I have a host of parts for this model and may be able to decrease some of the expense. You will save even more if you do most or all the work instead of farming it out to shops. A Maaco paint spray can be had for $1k if you do the prep work. Keep the car in a garage and I have seen them last and look great for over 15 years. A couple $K for interior work updates at a pro shop, but even getting fresh skins runs that high.

On top of the ones you've found here is some more. I've checked every state across the USA for 1975 & 1976 300D's listed on Craigslist. These are the best ones I've found that isn't complete junk. 3 for you to choose plus your $5000 white 300D.

1976 240D (Baby Blue) (California) $799

Classic 1976 Mercedes Benz - Runs Great!

I understand this is not the 5 cylinder 300D but a 240 is still a W115 chassis and it is light blue as you would love. This looks to be really rust free. The price is so cheap supposedly because it does not have a title and has a few electrical problems. The owner is applying for a new title within a week. I'd still be a bit suspicious as to why the price is so low. Not sure if it has already been sold but is still on Craigslist.

1976 300D (White) (Kansas) $3000

https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5041157250.html

Seems to be rust free. Does not have leather seats so that would have to be installed back in. Has aftermarket steering wheel. A few problems that would need addressing.

1976 300D (Tan) (Oregon) $4200

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/5033996042.html

You should check it out. Looks to be in great condition. Of coarse that's one picture. It's in Portland! I'd offer him $3500.

Do not settle on one near you if you find one in better condition else where. Look abroad there's sure to be one in better condition for less. Shipping a W115 should be no less than $500 and no more than $1500 depending on how far it is from you. That said it seems there are some nice examples in your area. As far as the white W115 you've found, $5000 should be ready for the showroom floor, almost. If it is in that condition, jump on it if you aren't looking for a project. I'd offer him $4000 for it and negotiate from there. Any W115 under $7,000 usually has some rust, at least near the jack points seeing these cars are reaching 40 years old.

I have a 1976 300d that I purchased from Mercedes Motoring 2.5 years ago. It's got 117k miles on it. He did a great restoration job on it. I love it but for the right price would be willing to sell it.

76 300d W115

I am interested in what a refurbished d goes for. Could you send me a description. I am not interested in going through a painful restoration.
Please any description, photos and $. I am looking at a one owner that is interesting (yellow) no rust etc.
I've got the diesel bug.
Thanks
