i own two 1967 mercedes L406d vans—one is the 2950mm wheelbase and the other is 3500mm, both are high roof design. i had to scrape around pretty hard but managed to get a factory service manual for o309/l416d, etc. and two multi language owners' manuals.
over the last four years i have discovered what needs to be renewed on the chassis, where rust develops, sources for parts, useful modifications, and other insights.
in the case of my vans, both came to me modified with om617na motors. the shorter one also had a mercedes 4 speed automatic and a dana 60 rear end to achieve highway speeds. the longer one has the stick manual trans and original rear end. the other interesting difference between the two is one has the stock radiator with the motor mounting moved toward the rear by about 5 inches. this permits the large stock radiator to remain in place.
i am currently pulling the manual trans to diagnose a flywheel issue. while there i will be evaluating what it takes to move the motor back to accommodate the stock radiator (relocate mounts, cut the floor, shorten the driveshaft). if i can be of any assistance in providing advice/tips on the things you need please let me know. i will try to make the time to help you.
