The mechanic at the limo company in Toronto where I used to work full time 11 years ago got this W114 coupe for free from one of the drivers who wanted to spend his money restoring an old SL instead.
No cracked hood, but no floor boards either.

Fonzi,

Those are nice looking cars, but it's really difficult to buy something without inspecting it in person. Many of those descriptions and photos leave out lots of things that can become a costly problem. I'm amazed at how many list cars for serious $$$ but don't go through every detail and photograph everything.

Some are obviously trying to hide things. One seller told me his car was a 100% rust free California car, bla bla. I requested detailed photos of the undercarriage, and he emailed me photos of rust holes through the floor. He never posted those with the auction and never responded when I pointed them out. I move on when the seller has little feedback or bad feedback.

Silver Star Classics has some great info, but that site was last updated in Feb 2012 and their source, Collector Car Market, shows many models are 25-30% higher now.

A ridiculous premium imho... typically for classics, everyone's gotta have the ultimate edition. It's a nice engine (I had one) but I'd have been just as happy with the six. I like inline sixes.

Here is one I spotted on Ebay a while back. Missing several expensive pieces including the unobtainable BEHR air conditioner.
From what I have seen the V8 just about doubles the price.

I see the coupe in question has been relisted several times. For years I did not realize a V8 coupe existed until I saw one at an exotic car showroom in the Bay Area(this was years ago) then that became my dream car. When I realized it was available in a stick shift I waited until one showed up that was close enough for me to see and drive. Ended up being in San Francisco. It was $11,000 about 20 years ago.

So help me out Benzworld - I'd have sworn someone else's left foot that the W111 coupes were straight 6 cylinders only. I see a 3.5 in the convertibles all the time, but I'm not sure I've ever seen them in this config ...

I think with a thorough cleaning and some interior reconditioning, this car would be quite a catch...
