Small help

Greetings!

First off... I hope everyone had a safe and happy holidays. It gets crazy around that time of year, every year.

For me, I just got engaged beginning of December and the day to come is Oct 3 this year. Basically, my dear love wants the car drivable for the wedding so that we can drive off in the car. It normally sits in the garage and doesn't get much action for now.

I had a couple questions about my 1966 250S Benz;

My brake lights pop fuses after I use the brake for about 3 seconds or longer. I was told I should try to replace all the light bulbs on the car? Would that be worth my time or a waste and what bulbs are people buying these days?

I'll attach a couple pictures of said car and one from the night of my beautiful fiance !

Thanks for much for reading.

Congratulations! Both appear to be in excellent shape. Not sure why you are getting so much resistance that it blows fuses. Changing the bulbs wouldn't hurt. Does it have the correct amp fuse in place? I sure others will chime in with good diagnostic suggestions.

hi , i was just thinking about your el problem and thought i could contribute here.Try disconnecting each brake light contact individually, then test the brakes .The problem is most likey in one of the rear light asemblies or in the trailer contact if fitted.Happy hunting

+1. isolate the problem by removing all the bulbs and replacing one at a time.

BTW great looking car. the green interior and white steering wheel I have never seen that color combination.

You need a correct Becker radio next.....

Thanks all for the comments. I made thread a while back about the help but I was between new jobs and moving so the benz was pushed behind. I saved some links from past people about the bulbs but things change over time.

Now that I have an actually deadline and a pushing purpose to finish it... stuff will be done. Car truly needs interior all redone. Those pictures made it look better than it is! HA!

Agree on the radio comment. I did not install that CD player. I will do one bulb at a time.

Do they have new bulbs that are like LED's for the car ? Anything plug and play or is that all crazy extra work?

Thanks for all the warm comments and help like always.

Replacement LEDs - yes they're available. Go to eBay or Amazon and do a general search for the bulb code (should be printed on the thing)(or can be seen at Autozone, etc). You'll get a ton of suitable replacements. Expect to pay about $10-$14 per LED though. The local Autozone sells LEDs, but not for every application.

Note that LEDs may not be a suitable replacement for turn signals. Because they activate so quickly, the normal on-off period of time is completely skewed and the things blink much much faster. There are kits to overcome this though.

I'm planning to do the same to my 280SEL. I was going to start with brake lights to try to make them a bit brighter. Superbrightleds.com has them. Because our lenses are red, you should get red LEDs. They have an assortment of choices for brightness.

I don't want shoes, lol. I like it stock. I plan to do suspension and interior work all to factory specs as best as I can. I'm not dumping it on shoes but I will admit I've seen a few around town with it done and it looks great.

The red light from the LED will be absorbed by the red lense. You won't see anything when you hit the brakes.
