1985 300CD Turbo wheels?

I have no idea where to post this, but anyways.. Dilemma: I don't love the bundt wheels on my '85 300CD. I like the color matched hub caps, but from what I understand my year model didn't come with those, and I'd have to get a whole different wheel set that would fit the hub caps. Is it frowned upon to make this change from the original set up?? Or preferred to sand and repaint my ugly bundts?

If you fear the purists, store you bundts and go get yourself some steelies and hubcaps. Put some wide tires on them or get the 6.5" wheels with 205/70/14 tires from a 107.

Wheels can ALWAYS be changed back in just a few minutes. Were note talking about major modifications.

But steelies DO take shorter lug bolts. So get them too.

i doubt even the purists would frown at your idea. go for it. i agree that the hubcaps have way more charm than the ugly and ubiquitous bundts.

It's only the Americans who got the massive quantities of Bundt wheels. The rest of the world was fine with steel wheels. I would go with 6" rather than 6.5" as Fonzi suggests. No reason for the wider wheel with that size tire IMHO.

I think the covers look nicer as well. I replaced the bundts on my 4.5 30 years ago and have no regrets.
