1963 220Sb badged as a 300SE :-(

I went to look at this poor thing today. 1963 MercedesBenz
I was horrified at what I saw -- I was assuming that this was once a 300SE that had the M189 engine and MANUAL transmission yanked, along with the air suspension. It was only when I looked at my photos that I realized that it had the VIN of a 220Sb. Then I was less upset. Fairly low-rust but realistically this is a $500 parts car, not a $5000 parts car...

Yes, and they are in horrible condition. The seller is quite proud of them though. As he is of the Positraction rear end that was installed. And the brown velour interior (which looks ok if you don't look at EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF MERCEDES INTERIOR CHROME that is horribly pitted).

I have no idea what was going through this guy's head when he had the engine pulled out of the car, the rear end replaced, an automatic GM transmission installed and then an engine heaved into the engine bay but not even bolted in. And then he went for a decent but totally wrong re-upholstery inside which is the only thing in decent condition. Except for the body itself which appears at first glance to not be rusty. So I suppose you could turn the car back into a 220S but there are much better examples from which to start. I guess I should offer to buy the horns...
