Hi, a couple of years ago i purchased an old 250 mercedes benz and i just cannot seem to figure out what year it was made, there are two lots of registration papers one says 1970, and the other 1974 and my friend says its a 1967, so i am thoroughly confused. I need to buy a new windscreen and rubber seals for the windows and doors but i need to find out the year first. The engine number has worn out completely so we can't find it out that way. I was just wondering how i could find out what year it was.
Is there a VIN plate inside the door jam? If so it has the VIN on it, engraved/stamped, not just printed. It probably begins with 114 or 108 depending on what year your car is. Try taking a close-up with a cell phone on macro or a digital camera on macro and when you look at the picture you may be able to see it a lot better. Also, post a picture of your car and we can refine the tips a bit better. If the VIN on your registration / title don't begin with 114 or 108 then they aren't going to be helpful. (because they are not your "real" VIN, they are a subset of your real VIN...)
