R129motoring offers a great hood pad for the r/c107. It was about $45 I think. The can of "yellow" (green can actually) 3M high temp spray on glue was another $15 at Napa.
I don't think any of my three w114 cars (each purchased as barely-restorable parts-car-priced vehicles) had a hood pad when I bought them.
Most 107 pack a big V8 in a tiny engine bay, some with cats on the exhaust manifolds too. The w114 offers a lot more room to breath and in my opinion should be far less likely to cause any paint problems.
My dream car is a classic sporty five speed (stick+overdrive) convertible that seats five. If, you want 70's-80's Mercedes tuner wheels, let me know.
