i have a solution for you, since my car is 71 original factory single stage paint i didn't want to end up with peeling paint i installed b-quiet sound deading,
this way i reflect the heat from the hood (i actually installed this from front to the back of the car) and reduces the sound of the engine so the hood never ever gets hot, actually the hood gets hotter from the sun than from the engine now. i love it.

nice buffing with mcquier #7 should help with the dry single stage paint.\
