c.1960 300SL Roadster

Hi, this is my first post, I'm new to this forum.

I am aware of the immense value of the 300SL these days, and even ones in never restored condition fetch great sums. However, I might be able to obtain a 300SL, matching numbers, I think it might still run, but which is in poor condition. By poor I mean the interior is shot (only one usable seat), the paint is shot, there is body rust, some old cracking bondo, its a complete 100% restoration candidate even from a novice's point of view. It'll need some (not major) steel replacement, its quite a sad sight. But it still rolls, and I think it runs.

What might a car like this be worth still? Hagerty valuation puts a 'fair' level 4 300SL at ($1,000,000) in value (click link).

I just want to know how much this thing might be worth, sorry no pictures, but its pretty sad. Will it be worth more worthwhile to sell outright, or worth more if I put money into a restoration, use some, and then sell?

Thanks guys!

Pics please...

Congrats on a great find, but in this case I think it would all depend on what the seller sets his price at and if you would be willing to pay that.

Photos could help those who didn't behold it to see the imperfection to get an idea on where it might stand as far as worth is concerned.

I am aware of a 300sl gullwing that recently sold for $470k having been a single-owner "barn find" with the original blown motor. The car came with original paperwork. Of coarse the car needed a complete restoration. Fully restored ones seem to fetch more than $1M. I'm absolutely NO expert n this though.

Edit: oops. That was for gullwings. I assume they are worth more than their roadster counterparts, but again, I don't know.
