1962 220SE door and trunk seals

Just got my car totally painted and body work done at Maaco, but they neglected to replace my trunk and door seals. I live in Portland Oregon, and it rains alot, so I definitely need them to stop water from seeping in. Does anyone know where I can find affordable replacements. The upholstery shop I am working with is searching, but so far the price from Mercedes is about $2400, which is totally unaffordable. Anyone have any ideas? Diana

I seem to remember someone here indicating that VW Superbeetle door seals might work, so any VW Type I from the seventies would be where I'd look. I need some for a '62 190D project, so I'm curious to test this out myself. The trunk seal might be a same deal, so looking around for other German cars from the era might be your best bet.

$2400 seems a little high. Was that price quoted by a dealer? You should contact
Tom Hanson at the Classic Center in Irvine CA. If you are a MBCA member you'll get
a 15% discount.

The 70's VW beetle seals cost $22 or so and will fit the fintails with a little work the groove design is identical in shape and fitment .Origin is Brazil.

The ignition points ,rotor fuses etc are all Bosch and some are a direct fit in our models,as is the fuel pump kits.

The figures in the link are closer to what I have seen them sell for, for the price your shop quoted you, you can buy all the seals for the whole car. I am also in Portland, are you an MBCA member? Maybe we've met at a gathering or Historics/Concours around the area? Anyway, the club folks are always great with advice or even parts.
As already said, call Tom Hanson and discuss with him, he can get you a price break and be sure you get the OEM seals your car deserves.
Is this for a sedan or coupe? It is possible but not likely I may have a spare trunk seal for a coupe.

I believe it's a coupe........I just joined so I have not gone to any Portland Mercedes events yet......a trunk seal would be most appreciated, since I am quickly running out of money and desperate to find another Portland repair shop. Thanks Diana

shortfire,

If the pic in your last post is of your car it is a sedan not a coupe. The coupe is a two door.

Hi, that's a sedan so my seal wouldn't work very well, totally different bodies. You can see in my pic at bottom of this post my coupe and how it does not have the same shape, fins or body as your car. That's a great looking find! Appears to be an early car (what year is it?) with possible update to larger, later wheels. Cool, early style mirrors too!

Can you send me a private message with more info on who you are using locally for your mechanical repairs and what upholstery shop you're using now, I may be able to point you to some other resources.

Paahhhleeeze !

..........this is an example of a painful thread to read.
Throw something out there and see, if anything will stick ??

This O.P. has neither a detailed profile, nor knows what car she has and is slowly running out of money to throw at !

1. I would spend more time on finding a knowledgeable shop to trust the work to.
2. for goodness, KNOW WHAT YEAR, MAKE AND EXACT MODEL YOU HAVE.

THERE ARE 3 ! BODY TYPES IN A 1962 220se, MORE IF SHE GOT THE YEAR WRONG.

The posters who answered here are to be admired for trying to help somebody, WHO DOES NOT EVEN DO THE LEAST BIT DUE DILIGENCE.
