advice on purchase of 1975 300D ?

I'm looking at a 1975 300d. Was my friend's dad's car. Then her kids drove it to high school. Now it has sat for 6 plus years. The odometer died at 130,000. my friend said she thinks it has at least 250k. Supposedly ran fine when they parked it. (why do people do this?)
They ran it on biodiesel for years. It is completely rust free, but needs lots of detailing on the outside. The interior is dirty, but only the drivers seat is ripped.
I'm planning to go try to get it running in a couple of weeks. I'm not a diesel mechanic. Wondered if I need to do anything other than checking the fluids, trying to charge the battery and get it started? I'm assuming the tank probably has a drain? Should I drain the fuel and put in fresh diesel? Change the oil?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Also trying to figure out what it might be worth. Looks like low retail for a driver is about $4k. This is quite a ways from being a driver.
Thanks for input. Kelly
