Looking at a rusty, but beautiful 73 220D. need opinions!
Looking into getting into my first W115. This one has solid looking body from the outside, but the floor pans ar pretty much completely gone, with a semi sturdy patch job. Personally, I think they need ripped out and replaced with a little more professionalism. The inner wheel wells in the trunk are also perforated pretty badly. Interior though, is nesrly complete, it starts, runs, and drives very well, and all the glass and chrome are there, minus the strip of crome that runs down the passenger front finder.
I also noticed mosture under the carpeting in the cab and truck, so it will obviously need all new door, trunk, and windsheild seals as well.
I know this will be an investment, but what type of money are we looking at here, roughly? I would be trading for it at a value of about a grand. Worth it? I really loved the way it looked, ran and drove. The girlfriend fell in love with it too, which really helps.
The overall goal is a daily through the nice weather days. Mercedes built these things to drive, albeit over 40 years ago. I understand and am fine the amount of maintenance it will need.
