Also D jetronic injectors are common to Datsun w240-260 z units as Nissen used the same Bosch injection system under licence.
Fuel pump too!

Mercedes 450 SEL with Ford 5 L INJECTORS PART NUMBER

I believe the green euro 3.5 d-jet injectors are also supposed to have a lower flow rate too.

This thread is all about d-jet. Correct?

I believe that the mustang (or any of the newer bosch) injectors will physically fit. Issue is operation.

The D-jet utilized low impedance injectors while the new ones are high impedance.

The D-jet injectors are grossly oversized for the engine. I believe the 4.5 injectors are something like 44# while the correct injector should be on the order of 19#. I read that this was because the allowed duty cycle of these very early injectors was shorter so they had to run shorter pulse widths. This is also why our cars tend to run rich at idle.

The D-Jet does not utilize any feedback. It has no idea how the engine is actually running (rich/lean). It just assumes that what it is feeding the engine is correct and all else is good. That means if you put in a different injector, the system can't compensate and you will run lean or rich depending on the injector. (no O2 sensor)

The 19# mustang injectors are commonly used when converting the D-jet cars to an aftermarket FI system (such as megasquirt) because they are readily available and properly matched to the engine displacement/horsepower.

I would say you can not run modern high impedance injectors in a D-Jet system for a couple of reasons:

The higher impedence of the modern injectors will cause them to either not fire or fire slower

The modern 19# injectors are sized for the engine, but the D-Jet doesn't know that. When our D-Jet injectors are firing at a 10% duty cycle, the modern 19# injectors (if they even fired) would only deliver about 40% of the fuel needed. Definitely not good.

Because the D-Jet is an open system without feedback, the system never knows that it is feeding too little fuel.

Megasquirt is a do-it-yourself fuel injection system. It is pretty involved and you must program your own fuel maps to determine the correct injector duty cycles for given speed/load. You could probably do a simple megasquirt (with new injectors, etc..) for about $700 - $1000.

Megasquirt is in fact a DIY ECU and more. It can be used for Fuel delivery (sequential or batch) as well as spark (wasted spark, EDIS, COP etc). There is also an add on daughter board that can control up to an 8 speed electronically controlled transmission. But its downfall is it is totally DIY. You have to figure it out. You have to select components that you want to run. I will one day go Megasquirt on my 4.5. I would like to go wasted spark EDIS, eliminate the cold start valve, eliminate the idle screw and implement an electronic idle control valve. Sequential injection utilizing 19# or 24# injectors, and a wideband O2 sensor for feedback. Now I just have to convince my wife that this would be fun.

FYI, there are a few who have done this conversion and are getting 18-19mpg on the highway with their 4.5.
