Removing ignition switch on 280se 4.5

I have a thread already running concerning starting problems. I want to remove and possibly replace the ignition switch. Can anyone give me some pointers on how and if there are any tricks? It looks a little buried
Cheers John.
ps also i may have to check the gear selector switch any advice here would be much appreciated.

Need a little help:) Please

Hi all
Today i started the dash. i wanted to not only remove the ignition switch, but i wanted to repair the broken heater controls. This has led on to deciding to remove the wood altogether. Top trim and dash. I got quite a lot done today. (even with the girlfriend saying i should not be outside with all the smoke from the nor cal fires). But i cannot see how to get to the switch? i have attached some pix to show you how far i got.
I plan on starting a thread about the refinishing side of this project if anybody is interested.
Please if anybody can give me some pointers i would be very grateful.
All the best john.

I had to get some help in the 107 forum for my 1972 350sl 4.5 part out. Need to turn key to 2 position to get tumbler out. Then there was another thing to get the lock off the column.
