Old 240D

I was driving on the highway today and saw an abandoned W115 240D with a manual transmission. The car did not have plates on it, so I am assuming it is abandoned. The interior looks to be in good shape, but the paint is pretty faded.

I contacted the highway patrol who will try to get in contact with the registered owner. Maybe the owner could shed some light on the status of the car.

Either way, I'd love to get it for free or maximum $500. If it's not worth fixing, I'm sure I could part it out to some members on here.

I thought about having it towed today, but I'm assuming that would be considered theft. Highway patrol left a warning sticker on the rear. I called them and they are supposed to get back to me, hopefully tomorrow.

I didn't see keys, but the doors were unlocked and the interior looked great. Hub caps were missing. I would assume that it's in running condition. Otherwise, I'm not sure how/why someone would drop it off on the side of the highway.

My assumption is that it sat for a while. The front plate registration sticker was from 2009. There was no plate on the rear.

Even if I had to put $1000 in to it to get it working, it would still be a great car. At least I won't have to worry about the manual tranny having too many issues.

You gotta figure there was a reason why the guy hated the car enough to leave it on the side of the road...

The car was towed to a tow lot today. The tow truck company said they have to determine who the owner is and if they are unable to make contact with them, the vehicle can be titled after 45 days. I guess I'll call them in a couple of weeks and check on the status.

Not having a key would really suck.

I believe if you the vin, you can get a set of keys from the dealership. If the locks have not been changed...
