It still does my head in how people manage to measure things accurate enough to fabricate new parts, like your front control arms. How do you know what reinforcing is required so that the control arms don't bend? Do you have to get an engineer to sign off on it as being safe? In Australia, that would be a big thing to be wary of.

Eventually it's going to get a straight axle in the rear - something that'll withstand a forced induction v8 The suspension cycles really well without binding. How long will the factory IRS hold up being that it wasn't intended to do this, I'm not sure, but it's a fun cruiser so parts can be replaced if need be. As far as the fabrication side of it, a buddy of mine is the one who did the suspension. I have done suspensions on several vehicles, but only one bagged vehicle. He's bagged a lot of vehicles, including several dually trucks that pull trailers with 3 vehicles on the trailer, so I trust his ability and judgement. We do not have inspections in the state we live in, so no signing off is required by an engineer. Having gone to school for Mechanical Engineering, I understand what he's doing and am able to have a general idea whether or not it'll work. The pic in this thread that has the 3 Mercedes driving side by side, those are all in Australia.

Very good. A mate is bagging his finny ute (obviously not standard!) but he was able to retain all the stock control arms. But I am not sure he gets as low as your car though. The standard front control arms have a habit of snapping near the kingpin though if not lubed so that can be a problem he will have to be wary of.
If you can put the front crossmember on the ground, where are you going to route your exhaust?
And what are those things in the boot (sorry, trunk) that seem to be poking through the floor? Are they some sort of mega-valve? I have not seen anything like that. Will there be a big tank in between them?
Your project is confusing me... I have a 1965 220S that I was going to part out but can't bring myself to. It has a terrible paint job but a nice red interior. It looks like a grandpa car and I was just going to get it running and sell it. But seeing your car looking really cool makes me want to do something similar to it. But I have too many projects already!! What a dilemma.

Love everything about this. I have a 73 280SEL 4.5 that I want to do the same thing. I even picked out the Anthracite metallic paint with red leather interior based on a 300SEL that I was for sale once.... For wheels I was looking at US Mags... Artillery.. Just add the Mercedes hub caps back on....

What are you doing for a motor? Mercedes or other? Are you changing to rack and pinion or keeping stock steering?
