w115 door rebuild?
I have a '73 220D with hand crank windows.
It all started with the door checks - they are non functional on both the front doors and I bought a pair of new ones. I have replaced them many years ago, it's not a difficult job but you have to take the door panel off to do it.
After thinking about it I decided that I should also replace the window channel, the U shaped fabric / rubber channel the windows slide up and down in, and the window brush, the (formerly) furry thing at the bottom of the windows. I also thought I should replace the rubber seal for the vent window; it's gotten stiff and it will not form a tight seal so the window whistles (very annoying).
There is a window regulator rebuild kit (cheap) and I bought 4 or them thinking that at least I would lubricate everything and would probably find some worn parts.
Here are my questions to anyone who has knowledge about these things:
- while I have the door open is there anything else I ought to do?
- I have the door checks, vent window seal, regulator rebuild kits (from MB - they were reasonable $$) . I do not have the window channel or the brush for the bottom of the window - although these are available from MB they are amazingly expensive (window channel is just shy of $100/meter and you need 2.2m per door!). I have seen alternatives available for much more reasonable costs but I know nothing of their quality - does anyone have a source they would recommend (or avoid)?
- I do have the MB body manual and will read up on this but does anyone know of a web article with better photos?
- any other advice before I jump into this?
