W108 Mexico Radio Poor AM Reception

Hello Folks

Well . . . after removing the Mexico Radio that was recently refurbished by Becker and sending it back to them due to poor AM and FM reception, I asked both Ed and Tom of Becker why my reception was so poor. They said it was due to a poor ground and a bad internal fuse.

After getting the radio back from Becker the FM reception is now fine, but there is absolutely no AM reception. My mechanic contacted Becker and talked to Tom. According to the mechanic the advise Tom gave was not helpful. Tom's said that the lack of Am Reception was most likely due to the radio fitting too tightly in the dash. The mechanic said that it fit just fine. Has anybody heard of this explanation?

From my primitive understanding, these radios have two antennas. An external one for FM and an internal one for AM. Since the external antennae is brand new and the FM channels sound great, is it possible that the AM internal antennae is the issue?

Any other theories would be appreciated.

Bench test it and if no AM (assuming you have a good car antenna installed in the thing AND that you live in a location with decent AM reception) send it back to Becker Autosound and get them to deal with it.

Sounds like a load of BS to me.

There is no internal antanna for am. Like in table top radios ,a common am/fm aerial.
