contemplating 6.9 purchase

I've been talking to a guys selling a 1979 450SEL 6.9. Trying to get more photos before I drive 5 hours round trip to look at it.

If this is truly a no rust car - albeit poor paint is this a good buy?

Yeah I know all about the maintenance issues of this car regarding suspension. I am assuming at this point that the suspension all need rebuilt, though he does say the suspension stays up for day.

If it does drop down over say a week, does that mean the hydraulic struts need rebuilt?

As far as the engine goes, if it runs correctly what maintenance does it require with 116K miles on it, That seems not be be a lot of miles for that engine.

This is the hook:

These three areas will eat you alive if you need hard parts. Things like water pumps, for instance. Probably around $500-$800 for a new one. Rebuilt will be close to that. Suspension parts are frighteningly expensive.

Take a look at the M100 Group's web site. Karl Middelhauve is the main dude.

If you buy this you'll have to learn the M-100 handshake.

I remember seeking a torquise euro with BBS RS wheels that just looked so beautiful in my opinion, it was tempting to investigate at $8,000 asking. I couldn't make it make any logical sense for me though.

The US bumpers on these beautiful cars hurt my eyes.
