Questions about a 1972 250/8

First of all, great website. Tons of valuable info on here.

I have a 1972 250/8 I just purchased.

There is a metal plug thing that keeps coming out of the front of the engine and an empty hole above it where it looks like something may be missing.

Is this normal? or whats actually going on here?

I have to replace a lot of the hoses in the engine compartment because there are some leaks and dry rot and what not.

Where would be the best place to order them? is there a place to order like a kit of replacement hoses?

Thanks in advance!

Great looking car. Congratulations. Believe it or not you can probably get most everything from your local dealer. If they will take the time to help you. The ones here tend not to want to be bothered with the older cars.
If I were you, I would email Tom Hanson, thomas.hanson@mbusa.com , at the MB Classic Center in Irvine, California and ask him if they ship to Canada.
If you can get the EPC, Mercedes Electronic Parts Catalog, to work from there you can research the part numbers you need and that will open up a lot of additional options to you. You'll need a PC for that or a friend in the US that can help you.
Good luck.

try your local auto parts store for coolant hoses, then authausAZ

my car isnt near me to look, but the one that keeps coming out maybe the pin that hold your chain guide in. that would be real bad if it came all the way out.

you can easily take the valve cover off and look in the front where it is to see.
usually they are a good tight fit.

Does it have internal threads in the end of the pin?
