If fuel is coming out where your arrows are then it is a bad cold start valve.

To check fuel pressure you can put a gauge on the hose that runs to the cold start valve and leave the cold start valve disconnected.

Right on, thanks again!

Do you happen to have the part # handy? Noticed it wasnt available on pelican parts.

Kinda odd, with no wires no leaks, with wires (not 100% the polarity is correct) fuel leak.

What would the unit do , say if the polarity of the wires were reversed

It doesn't care about polarity. It's just a solenoid. Let me know if you don't find one. I can dig through spare parts

Of all places, rock auto has them. Look under fuel and "cold start valve." A bit pricey.

Excellent - looks like it's 0280170022

Can somebody kindly recommend a Fuel Pressure test kit to buy, as to connect to the CSV hose? (amazon or harbor freight)

Thanks again!

I'm parting out a running 1972 350sl 4.5 with 51,000 miles. It starts right up and runs well. I have a long way to go on oarting it and haven't yet had the heart to start taking the precious d-jet system apart. Maybe Tuesday-Friday of this week I will tohe down the hatchet on this poor rusty thing:
