I bought last year W108 4.5 1972 and almost did all the required to restore it.
1-change the ignition system to Pertronics ignition ii
2-change the spark plugs wires complete to Beru.
3-change the ignition coil to a new coil by Bosch.
[B]4-change the water pump.
5-change the clutch Fan to new original by MB OE
6-change the thermostat to new Behr.
7-re cored the radiator 2 times(1st time to original spec. and 2nd time to high performance low hight fins 3 channels. by Serk international (UK company).
8-change the auxiliary fan switch(Behr) to lower temperature 68-72 Celsius.
9-services the auxiliary fan and pushing handsome amount of air.
10-New radiator cap OE MB
11-New Coolant (antifreez) by Febi Germany and the ratio is 50:50
I have a problem the engine temperature is getting high to almost boiling point 100 Celsius. the moment I go into a city traffic or stop at the traffic light,and nowadays is getting hot in summer temperature climbs to mid 40s Celsius.so driving straight on high way with speed 90 Kmh(56 M)
I have no idea why the temperature is climbing high? is it normal for MB W108.
please I need your help here what should be done now????
another problem I have is the high consumption of petrol may be its related to heating problem i have an average 2 Km per litre or lets say 8 Km per Gallon.
to solve this i did the following
1-serviced the injectors by Bosch.
2-changed all injectors rubber seals and filters.
3-changed the fuel pump to exact same original (bought on-line from Australia for US$500).
4-change the fuel regulator to exact same by Bosch.
