Small Piece of Perfection for Sale (eBay)

This piece of timeless beauty needs almost nothing - perhaps a gentle wash and quick buff job. I think I've found my new daily driver.

Shucks, that ain't too bad. A little clean-up, a bit of work with a paint pen to touch up those minor exterior blemishes, some interior panel replacement, a bit of tweaking on the engine, a couple of seat covers and a good wax and buff should make it sparkle.

Not to mention it has the rare four different wheel option which is usually only available in the remote rural sections of the US but was standard in most third world nations.

The second screw from the left under the steering column still looks salvageable. Oh wait, nope, the head is stripped.

I used to own a W123 LWB (250) that was imported into the US.

Great car with the exception of the lack of AC.

Also, it was not, nor was the LWB a "limousine". They were very common in Europe and the Middle East for use as taxis. Diesel versions were more popular. The rear portion of the cabin had a regular bench seat across the back and a row of jump seats that folded up in the forward part. There was a large frame member that went across the cabin just behind the front seats that the jump seats were mounted to and provided structural integrity to the body. If you removed the jump seats you still had this large frame member in the way. I can see where people might have used it to build a cabinet for a bar or something.

Since mine was a Euro delivery it had velour fabric, which didn't wear well. It had an M123 inline six with a 4A1 Solex carb which I converted to a Holley 5200. The Solex' were troublesome as the top covers often warped badly, preventing the carb from running right.

It had rare 15" steel wheels and could be ordered with even rarer 15" bundts. The larger wheel diameter was required for the longer body and larger payload capacity.

Great car.

I liked that it said it was running.

I think they meant that people were running away from it!

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
