The under-battery location of the transistor-box on my '72 Mercedes 250 hybrid point-ignition used to concern me a bit. I even got hold of a used transistor-box to carry as a spare since I heard those were very expensive. But in 14 years, I never had any trouble with it, except for needing to change or adjust the points every now & then. That system did make the point's contacts last a lot longer.

Yes with that type of system there is virtually no current flowing through the points, so they could last forever .
