Becker Mexico Radio - Fade in and Out

Hello One and All

This is my first post.

I have a 1972 280sel 4.5 Merc. I am presently restoring it. Part of this restoration includes the installation of a Becker Mexico Radio. I found one from a car with low mileage (50,000 miles) and sent it to Becker Auto Sound in New Jersey for a complete rebuild. Once it was finished they sent it back to me. A week ago the mercedes mechanic who is doing to the restore, and is familar with old mercedes, said he wanted to install a new antennae due to problems with the signal.

Today he gave me another call and said that it sounded better but sometimes the signal/volume fades in and out, especially when he drives over a dump. It should be noted that prior to the restore the car had two speakers at the footwells, but now has another one. The new one is installed where the orginal one went missing (top of dashboard under speaker grille). Also, the radio does have its original amplifier and was sent to Becker Auto Sound during the rebuild.

Any advice would be great. I will send it along to the mechanic.

Andrew

Call Ed Ebel at Becker and talk to him. You will find him to be very helpful in troubleshooting the issue.

I have had the exact same problem with a rebuilt Becker radio. When I called them, Ed insisted that I must have a poor ground to the antenna .

I checked and all looks good, I just plug in the iPod and stopped messing with the issue.
