1976 280S W116 Valuation

Time for me to part with my girlfriend of many years. Have been trying to get a valuation, or at least a baseline estimate, hopefully someone can help out. The Hagerty valuation is much higher and more specific by factoring in the cars condition opposed to NADA Vintage price lines. But with Hagerty, the description of the condition class can be ambiguous.

You all have any thoughts?

I agree, it's a very nice piece, but I'm afraid there's just not that much market for arguably the least desirable flavor of a W116 that is the 280S. If I were in the market, I might be interested around the $5,000 mark, but not much more.

Beautiful car that stirs memories of the 76 280S I bought for a D.D. years ago. It was the same Caledonian Green but had an Ivory interior, 108K miles and an uncracked dash, I paid $3200 from a local dealer. Adjusted for inflation, that would be about $6,000 today. Probably harder to get that in this economy though.

Mine faithfully hauled me 120 miles round trip Olympia to Seattle as needed and only required fluid changes, tires and a battery.

A safe car for its vintage: Totaled at 176,000 miles in a multi-car accident that ended in a head on with a city transit bus! Both front doors opened normally and we walked away bruised by the seat belts, but unscathed. Don
