72 w109 300sel 4.5 engine fire

Hi all I'm completely new to the Benz world and I'm looking at purchasing a 72 300sel 4.5 w109 for 800 dollars. Car is in good shape with the exception of the engine fire. It will need paint on the good and what not obviously. Engine wise do you think the engine itself would still be good? I'm familiar with wiring and such but looking to see how deep of a hole in getting into with wiring and other pieces that will need replaced and if it's worth the money to do so. Thank you all in advance for some much needed information!

I don't think it is worth considering-even if it were free. I could see 10K to get it back on the road.(maybe more if the air suspension is messed up)

I have a 72 280SEL that suffered an engine fire about 12 years prior to my purchase. Consequently, it sat in a barn until my purchase. It would be nice to see some photos to see extent of damage.

I built a new engine harness complete with new loom etc.. Only other issue with mine was the damage to the seals between the upper and lower intake. Other obvious bits would be injectors and injector seals. The throttle position switch could be toast.

It really depends on how bad the fire was and where it was.

pictures of the damage. 109 cars are not cheap to get back on road, were it a 6.3 or 300sel 3.5 then maybe, but pictures tell the tale, existing condition before fire is key..

But for a first time Benz endeavor, Unless this car was pristine and fire was contained to a small section under hood, I would pass.
