A friend of mine is leaving Canada and needs to sell his 1972 250S. I promised him I'll ask the enthusiast crowd for some input. I am not familiar with w115 chassis as I mostly hang out on the w124 pages. I would appreciate any info on what this car is worth, or if there is a market for it.
I have personally drove this car, and although it runs, it does need some work;
Body - some rust on the floor boards and rocker panels. Driver's side fender had rust around the light that was a DIY repair. Needs to be finished.
Speedo, Odo, and Temp gauges do not work.
Engine shakes on idle (uneven compression), but runs smooth once gas is applied. Blue smoke from the tailpipe.
Interior is in great shape, but roof liner needs to get tucked in at the back.
Steering has recently been refurbished, and is good. Tires are new.
The car is drive-able and according to the mechanic would need about $500 of work to pass safety and certify.
I have seen a few old Benzes and know when its time to scrap the car for parts. This is not it. It would be a great project for someone. The seller doesn't have any particular price in mind, just so the car goes to a good home.
I realize the market for the w115 is rather small and would appreciate any advise on what would be the best way to sell this car.
