450SEL 6.9 - 7,380 Units Sold?
Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the Wiki article concerning the 450SEL 6.9 mentions that out of the 7,380 examples that were produced between 1975-80, most of those were exports to North America, I must digress that according to the Chilton's repair guide for Mercedes-Benz cars (U.S. and Canadian models) covering the year range of 1974-84, that only less than 1,000 units for this particular model were actually imported to North America. The U.S. market, according to the same source, only had this model in the years 1978 and 1979.
The same source (Chilton's) mentions in the same paragraph that "the entire production was bought" before they were even imported here when the MY1978 sales of the 6.9 started late in 1977. At the time, this model sold for $44,000 here.
Therefore, were there really only less than 1,000 of the 6.9s here in the U.S. (and thus being 1978 and '79 models)?
