Getting into the Trunk (77 280SE)

Does anyone know how to get into the trunk? The ignition key does not work and if there is a trunk key I never had that.

I tried to get there through the back seats but I could not get that to work.

PB Blaster etc does not work.

you might be able to open gas flap push small metal locking rod out of the way then remove gromet and with a small hook tool reach in and grab the vac line and pull through hole and then supply pressure to hose sometimes will unlock trunk lock. lock system works off vacumm but i have put air pressure to make it work backwards. you can try this from driver door switch also. we have used gas flap line when locked out of car

Neat trick in post #2.

But it sounds to me like this is a situation of the only key to the car being the valet key.

Why not send proof of ownership to the classic center and get the datacard key-code, and then order a key from the dealership.

I have also heard that the valet key is just a thicker key, and could potentially be ground down to a narrower key that could work all locks.

Does your key work the glove box?

Nearly all my information comes from experience with the 107 model.

does the ignition key work the doors , if not you have a different key for ignition due to a replacement of the tumbler with a generic one .[ common ] if key work the doors , but the trunk wont turn , soak trunk key hole with wd40 . if you have no keys for doors , get one from dealer [ cheap ]

1977 is a single-key car (except for valet key if you have that).

I agree with what earlier poster said. You are likely trying to stick a valet key into the trunk. Regardless, get the key code and order the key for the car. It should fit all of the locks, but if it doesn't fit ONE thing, it would most likely be the ignition that it would not fit as that is probably the one that has been changed. Cheap and easy solution.
