VIN Info

My neighbor just purchased a 69 280 Sl. I was hoping to get a vin decode for this vehicle as the paint doesn't appear to be original and he has other questions that a decode would answer. The chassis number is 113.044 10-011413. Not sure if that is also the VIN. I'm not familiar with the older models so any help would be appreciated.

If he takes the VIN to the dealer with proof of ownership they can get a copy of the data card with has all option codes , build date etc. There is a data plate under the hood on the left inner fender which has the paint and option codes. Go to 113.org and look in the technical manual it will show you how to read the codes and they have examples of all the paints and interiors. It's a great site to learn about the Pagodas.

Thanks for the info. I was not able to find exactly what digit(s) were linked to the paint code, any idea what number of the VIN translates to the Paint? I think the last three digits might be the interior color? The car is currently painted red and appears to have been Silver at some point in time.
Thanks for your assistance.

The VIN will not give you the paint code. It's off the data plate or data card

We all love to see some photos.
How about a photo of the ID tag and another of the painted options tag under the hood, usually near the radiator.
I am sure several people here could help with decoding that.

Thanks, but I'm still confused, The number I posted was from that tag on the left fender well, but you say the paint code is NOT contained in this? Your previous post states that it is. I appreciate your help, been a 107 man forever.

Here's the data plate on the inner fender. Scroll down and look at the various pics.
