My friend Sam the w114 enthusiast (that I sold the white sedan to) old me a few weeks ago that the thing I need to do with the blue sedan is clean out the idle screw holes and put the screws back in. This is my first "messing" with the zenith carbs and I'm confident that this is helping me to get the car running.
After about six months of sitting, my first attempts at getting the car running only resulted in open throttle revs with the fuel bowls filled, but they would empty very quickly. Then later I couldn't even get it to fire.
Today I checked the spark, by having the fouled plugs out with cables connecting the plugs to the battery negative and they all looked weak, some not even always firing. So I went to the parts store for just some cheap quick plugs, Bosch super for $13. The car was firing again like it was before, running with fuel in the bowls and sucking it down quickly, only running with open throttle.
I actually got some idling with the bowls after pulling out the idle screws out, spraying and randomly settling the idle about 4 or so twists out and then full fuel bowls. But of coarse it stalled out and hasn't done that again yet.
I had to have dinner and put the kids to bed, but hope to put my thermals on again and play with the idle screws a bit more and maybe even get it running tonight. I'm out of carb cleaner though. So my on it hope is fuel and heat. Maybe I can find a 24-hour gas station that sells carb cleaner. Oh .. Walmart is 24 hour, isn't it?
My dream car is a classic sporty five speed (stick+overdrive) convertible that seats five. If, you want 70's-80's Mercedes tuner wheels, let me know.
