Post 1973 280c

Bought this beauty out of a guys heated garage where it had been sitting waiting for me since 1981 when the original owner took her off the road. So far I have changed the fuel, rebuilt the carb, put on new tires, electronic ignition, hoses, spark plugs, wires, and a few other odds and ends. She starts and runs fine now but seems a bit shaky. She wont however stay driving. After hitting the road after a very short time (less than a mile) pushing on the gas pedal makes the car sputter and stall out. It will start right back up and then not move at all with the same problem again. Any insight? I'm going crazy trying to figure out this problem as summer has finally arrived.

Perhaps the gas tank has rust that is being sucked up into the fuel pump and/or fule filter causing a blockage sufficient enough to stop the flow of fuel. Engine stops, junk settles, car restarts and junk gets sucked up again. I went through this with a '53 Packard I used to own. Car would just quit on the hiway with no waring.

Does sound like a fuel delivery problem. I would check fuel filter and fuel pump.

Ben280 here. I shouldn't even say anything because, I have A 73 W108 with the M117,4.5. But! when I first got my car, I had what sounds like the same problem. First I put on a new mane filter.( Not that), So I cleaned the tank and put in a new screen filter. Ok(not that), so then I took off the fuel pump, that looked new. And in the top of that pump was a cone shaped inline screen that was so fine nothing! was ever going to get to the mane filter. It was full/packed with dust so fine, that I (think!) it was meant to go too the mane filter. Took that out Bata, bing three years later no more problems. Good luck ! PS your car looks sweet. Benjamin280 out.
