W108 4.5 oil change - Cooler???

Quick poll. Those of you with the 4.5 in a W108, do you drain the cooler at every oil change or do you just do the pan/filter? My maintenance manual from MB does not say to drain, but I know it retains about a half to a quart of oil.

Just curious.

BTW, I use 20W50 in the summer in my benz. I run Castrol.

I usually do, but on my current car, the threads were messed up when I bought the car, so I am leaving better off alone. As you said, it is maybe half a quart. And I don't drive that many miles, so the oil isn't that dirty, just time to be changed.

Pan drain plug and filter replacement only. If a connection isn't leaking there's usually no point in disturbing it; and there isn't that much oil remaining in the cooler to make it worthwhile.

On my 220d I would always drain the oil cooler - the oil filter kit comes with the filter, the ring for drain plug, o ring for the filter and 2 smaller rings one for the bolt that holds the filter on and one for the cooler plug.

But I wouldn't obsess over it.
