FREE TO GOOD HOME...Note: this is the ad for sale of a complete grille, which I posted here earlier. However, now just the hood star is sold; so, if you are in the Seattle area and can use the grille-only, including badge, I will give it away, free to a good home. Note: when I bring it to you, there had *better* be an honest-to-gosh W108 sitting in your driveway, or else I will keep driving! PM me if your W108 needs this.
This is the same very, very nice grille I auctioned off here in May of 2012 at
The buyer never paid and never picked it up. Pulled from a 1970 280S. Price $80 + shipping. In case no one wants the grille, I will consider offers via PM for any combination of the hood star, hood star base, badge, or surround+lattice (i.e., what's left after you take the star, its base, and the badge).
Here's what's wrong with it:
--salt-speckles on the lattice.
--top of grille and hood star are slightly flash-rusted, *but* it has no bubbling whatsoever.
--looks like someone replaced the horizontal trim strips but didn't do a perfect job aligning them (but, they're not too bad).
--top right (as you sit in the driver's seat) trim strip has two small dents.
--missing one attachment clip, it went flying into the gravel when I lifted the grille off.
--rusty on top inside, see photo below. You could put anti-rust primer on it, or simply have it re-chromed.
--gasket was too adhered to the hood to take.
--badge has two tiny missing areas of white paint, scratched at the top in the "C", black (paint?) on one tri-star line at 8 o'clock (see photo, below).
Other than the above-described items, which are all relatively minor, it's absolutely gorgeous. A show judge would of course spot its trifling flaws, but the casual passerby would be dazzled by this grille.
