What you have is a 1977 450SLC 5.0. A very good find indeed. Officially, Mercedes claims the cars were produced for the 1978 model year, but a few were produced in 1977. Awesome find. I hope you have bought the car and will keep it. Also, I'll check to see if you are on the 026 registry and report back.

Where are you located? Please fill out your profile. If you decide to keep the car there are several members that will be willing to help you find parts or offer advice.

It is hard to say without pics, but I paid $2,000 for mine and drove it home. Another forum member bought one for $400 and drove it home, I believe. Those values are not typical of course and my car has a lot of rust that was mostly hidden. I hope you didn't pay much for the car though because the only people "looking" for 026's are typically enthusiasts and they will know how much it will cost to bring this car back from it's slumber. The car you found is rare and desirable, but to a very small group. The typical 107 owner doesn't even know anything about these cars and couldn't care less. Values in America are low. If you are trying to flip it you might want to sell it on German eBay.

Being #2 of 2769 5.0 SLCs built, I think it's something special. Of coarse condition is everything with these cars though, and it doesn't necessarily mean that you can do a restoration on the car and still easily make your money back. I certainly hope that these cars will be worth lots some day.

I have a custom convertible made from #478, and I bought it for $8000 knowing that it needs a $2000-$3000 custom top canvas installation. (I wanted a convertible that seats three in the back as my family grew out of my SL, and finding a sporty convertible that seats five isn't as already as you'd think.) It also needed the typical "sorting" including timing chain service, suspension rubber components, etc. I'm pretty sure I will easily have $15,000 into it before I will call it "done", and that will be with doing pretty much everything (but the convertible top) by myself.

Congratulations on your #2!
