Don't turn it by force
Top and most parts are metal one metal that will cause damage
Change the oil new filter new fuel and remove the valve cover to inspect clean and lubricate

Remove the plugs and Turn the engine by 24mm socket on the crankshaft and see how it goes

Don't force it

It will be like someone who was in bed for 3 years and you ask them to run sprint

Take your time

^^^ should any lubrication also be injected via spark plug holes for the bottom end too?

... And if the car could end up a parts car, because we don't even know why it was parked, is it even worth the oil change? Is old oil really such a bad thing? After the metal on metal and oil washes off any oxidation inside the engine, won't you want to change the oil again after a few minutes of running? (Just trying to help keep initial costs and efforts down.)

Dan is going to live how easy it is to pull out those spark plugs.

Edit:
What is the easiest way to attach an alternate fuel source? There is a clamp on the fuel filter in the engine bay.

20 bucks for oil change is worth thousands of dollars damage you might cause

From the fuel pump take the hose out and connect to alternate source.

You have to spent some time on the car to understand what is going on better

Yes you can out some oil in the spark plug holes, not too much as it will smoke as crazy

Post some pictures

What did you pay for it?
What was your plan with the car!
That will determine what so you do with it

Yea, its more or less....you just can't go and start an engine that has sat for that length of time...if you did what was posted later down this thread, you would have caught the timing chain issue and it wouldn't have caused that problem. It is also wise, if you have no experience with one of these cars....have it towed to your house and then ask what is the best method of waking up the car...you just can't jump in a car thats been sitting for that amount of time and attempt to drive it.

Dan is about to tow dolly the car 30-miles.

How would you guys do this?
1) Drag rear end with drive shaft connected, and in neutral?
2) disconnect the drive shaft (not easy in a field)
3) drag It backwards.

Any quick response would be really helpful before his brother actually arrives with the tow dolly.

Engine and radiator were apparently hot, and there was smoke coming out the tailpipe. I'm not sure how much more we are going to hear about this car as it was just parked about 50+ miles from dgosh28's home. Maybe my car will end up a donor for it, or maybe I will buy it for the body. Maybe the engine is still fine. Only time will tell.

I had my brother help me get the car to his shop by using a tow dolly. Not my preferred method, but due to limited time and logistics that is what we did. This car will need tons of attention before it can be considered a driver. Starter doesn't even have a cable connected to it. Shifter linkage was disconnected and hanging. Carburetor linkage is missing. Hopefully we didn't destroy the engine and/ or transmission.

Does anyone know exactly where the neutral safety switch is on a column shift 1971 250 sedan with m130?

Since the starter does nothing when the key is turned and the column shifter is stuck, there is some likelihood that the car doesn't think it's ok to start.

Also, does anyone know how big of a deal it is to "unstuck" a stuck column shifter? Where does this job start? Remove steering wheel and keep digging?

I'm getting a "parts car" feeling, which may end up being the most profitable solution for dgosh28, but he is far from ready to give up.

Are there Houston, TX residents interested in this car?

Being my car's blue exterior twin (same color interior), there are quite a few things I'd be interested in. Perhaps due to the body and lots of the interior appearing to be in better condition, perhaps my car's mechanicals would make an ideal donor for this one. I don't know. The VINs are the same up to the last four digits, and mine is just about 500 earlier, 11/70 (I think) instead of 12/70.

If anyone wants a 1974 450SLC parts car/ shell I have one that needs to find a home so this 250 can take it's spot in the garage. Car was running and driving when I started taking it apart so it would still have lots of usable mechanical items. I plan to keep the wheels and interior.
